Arriva UK Bus announces the arrival of a demand responsive unit in Kent called ArrivaClick.
The current area which has access to this service from Arriva is in and around Kent Science Park and Sittingbourne, although expansion will come over-time.
The ArrivaClick service, which has decided to use five Mercedes-Benz Sprinters supplied by EVM and London Hire are equipped with luxury features which you don’t often see on your local public transport. This includes 12 leather seats, tables, free Wi-Fi, USB charging points and standard electrical charging points.
ArrivaClick is based on a smartphone app which enables passengers to request a minibus from their pick up point at a time which they want and are booked onto a minibus where fellow passengers will be heading in the same direction to avoid inconvenient and time consuming delays due to other passengers being dropped at the other side of town, for example.
To use the service, customers download the app onto their smartphone, create an account to buy credit which can be topped up and then request their journey by booking their seat on the bus. They are given a proposed cost and ETA for the journey and once accepted, they can track the vehicle’s arrival in the app.
Via has provided a custom built rider app, driver app, backend technology and algorithm to power the service’s routing and dispatch functions. The algorithms aim to allow passengers to be picked up and dropped off without taking riders out of their way to accommodate other passengers, enabling the platform to move a high volume of riders while using a fraction of the number of vehicles utilised by other on-demand car services.
